Day 1: Tbilisi/David Gareji/Sighnaghi
Today we drive to David Gareji cave monastery (6th c). On arrival you will be amazed by the picturesque landscapes and monastery itself. Centuries ago the monks carved out the caves still surprising its visitors. Visit Lavra monastery and afterwards start walking up to Udabno monastery to enjoy wonderful frescoes and views overlooking Azerbaijan valley. Drive to Sighnaghi, romantic town with the views over Alazani River Valley and the Great Caucasus Mountains.
Overnight in Sighnaghi.
Day 2: Sighnaghi/Vardisubani/Kvareli
Today we travel in Kakheti, region of wine making, centuries old elaborate feasting traditions and local Kakhetian hospitality. Visit the local wineries which keep the ancient traditions of wine producing. The method of Qvevri wine making in Georgia is inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage intangible list.
Our tour won’t be perfect without visiting a Qvevri master. He’ll tell us about making Qvevri and demonstrate some of it.
Head to Kvareli region. Enjoy a traditional lunch with fine examples of the country’s rich culinary and winemaking legacy. At lunch you will experience the unique tradition of having “Tamada” (toast master) who will lead the feast and cheer up the guests.
We’ll visit Gremi Monastery with newly open museum exhibiting interesting artifacts about the province and Gremi itself which served as a capital to Kakheti province when it was a separate kingdom.
Overnight in Kvareli.
Day 3: Kvareli/Tbilisi
Today we compare home made wine with bigger winery wines. Visit Khareba winery, go through the tunnels and enjoy award winning wines, as well as breathtaking views. Afterwards we head to visit Alaverdi Cathedral and filled with unforgettable impressions drive back to Tbilisi.
