David Gareja - Georgia Tourism and Attractions

David Gareja

Duration 7.5 hours, involves 2.5hour walking

David Gareja is a rock-hewn Georgian Orthodox monastery located in Kakheti province of Eastern Georgia, on the semi-desert slopes of Mount Gareja. The area is also home to protected animal species and evidence of some of the oldest human habitations in the region. Gareja is also a gem-stone for those who like bird-watching.

We visit easily accessible Lavra Monastery and continue to painted caves of Udabno on an uneven and partially steep path. The views from the top are really worth of walking up. You’ll see Azerbaijan from the ridge. The roundtrip takes about 2.5 hours.

Return to Tbilisi.
